Interactive Metronome

GMS Institute is now offering an effective research-based training program called the Interactive Metronome to help students maximize their potential by improving their performance in academics, athletics and performing arts.

What is Interactive Metronome?

Backed by nearly a decade of research, the IM is an interactive technology program that delivers proven gains in key areas including, concentration, mental processing speed and timing. These fundamental areas help contribute to learning and overall academic and athletic performance in students of all levels.

How does it work?

The student actively listens to a metronome beat as he/she performs various exercises of varying degrees of complexity and duration. Visual cues and auditory tones provide immediate feedback as to the accuracy of the student’s response. This process, repeated thousands of times, systematically exercises and builds the fundamental skills essential for high-level learning and performance. The program is structured in 12, one-hour classes, typically completed within one month.

What are the academic gains from IM training?

For many students, real life benefits from IM include:

  • Improved ability to avoid distractions and focus in class during homework and while taking exams
  • Greater speed and efficiency when reading and computing answers to homework assignments and exams
  • Overall greater performance on time-based tests, both for school exams and quizzes and college entrances exams

Nationally standardized tests results from students from around the country validate the IM’s educational impact.

1. Gains in Reading Fluency-This test is a measure of reading speed and rate. Reading fluency may be a function of basic reading skills, comprehension skills and the ability to sustain concentration.

2. Gains in Math Fluency-This test requires a subject to rapidly and accurately solve math problems. Math fluency may be a function of basic math skill and automaticity.

3. Gains in Visual Matching-This test of processing speed is used to measure perceptual speed or the speed at which an individual can make visual symbol discrimination.

4. Gaines in Decision Speed-This test is used to measure the ability to make correct conceptual decisions quickly.

  • Who uses IM Training?

In addition to public and private schools from around the country, IM training is used by teams and top-level performers from the NFL, NBA, NHL and PGA, as well as leading universities like Notre Dame.

Every Child is unique, so results from the IM training are very different. Some children display effects after only a few sessions, while others may not show any changes until some time after completion. It is important that your child complete the program within the time line set to attain the best results. Both during and after training, you, your child and others involved with your child may notice the following reported observable behaviors:

    • Better eye contact
    • More initiative in conversation
    • Faster and more accurate completion of tasks
    • Less frustration
    • Improved posture
    • Better flow from thought to verbalization
    • Less overreaction to situations
    • Increased accuracy in sports
    • Improved self confidence
    • Better organization
    • Less argumentative
    • Improved concentration
    • Better able to follow directions
    • More attentive
    • Increased interest in school
    • Better able to follow directions
    • More restful sleep

Your support is very important to the success of your child. Students who merely do the tasks without the intention of improvement may not receive any benefit from the training. Please, help us help your child understand the potential benefits.
