GMS Gives Back

As you know, GMS Gives Back is a program that offers your sons and daughters the opportunity to “give back” to their community. Those who participated and/or attended the “GMS GIVES THANKS” Food drive, at the Haymarket Regional Food Pantry, were able to observe the great joy, satisfaction and pride that came from helping others. The girls and boys were eager for their next service project. With the holiday’s rapidly approaching, it becomes increasingly difficult not to get caught up in the typical madness of Christmas. All of the hustle and bustle can be exciting (as it should). However, often times this ends up as the direct opposite of the true meaning of the holiday season: giving. This season is a great time to stop and remind ourselves and our little ones how fortunate we really are and how just a little time, money, and effort can make an enormously positive impact in someone else’s life. What better time to teach your child an invaluable lesson in the process? As we know, these can be difficult times for many families. Imagine the added difficulty of these times for children in foster care. This year “GMS Gives Back” is sponsoring a drive entitled “GMS- Kids helping Kids” for these children. As it stands, there are about 200+ foster children ages 0 -18. The gifts collected will be collected by A Foster Care Mom’s Club( run by former foster care children) and going to foster children in Clarke County, Frederick County, Shenandoah County, Warren County, Winchester City, and Evan’s Home in Winchester. Each item needs to be unwrapped and new. Some great ideas are toys, games, art supplies, hats, scarves, stocking stuffers, candy, and gift cards to places like Target, Wal-mart, and Toys R Us. We will also be collecting gift bag and tissue paper donations. Because of the sensitivity of this service project, the girls will be unable to visit the various homes. However, Saturday December 3^rd, the toys will be picked up and delivered to the home in Winchester. We will begin collecting toys the week of Monday, November 28^th. We will collect until that Saturday the 3rd of December. So spread the word to your friends, family, and neighbors. Let’s make these kids “Flip for Christmas!

State Team Championship Results

5-17-11 Congratulation to all of GMS’s competitors for a successful season. Below are the team results for the 10-11 Team State Championships:

Level 4 Team 4th Place in the VA State Team Championships. 3rd Overall team in Northern Virginia

Level 5 Team 3rd Place in the VA State Team Championships. 1st Overall team in Northern Virginia

Level 6 Team 8th Place in the VA State Team Championships. 5th Overall team in Northern Virginia

Level 7 Team 10th Place in the VA State Team Championships. 3rd Overall team in Northern Virginia

Level 9 Team 7th Place in the VA State Team Chamiponships. 3rd Overall team in Northern Virginia

GMS Gymnasts Shine at National Championships in MA

5-19-11 Congratulation to GMS’s Level 9 athletes Morgan Northrop and Kelly McKay for an outstanding showing at the 2011 National Championships held in Worcester, MA on May 8th, 2011. Kelly McKay is now the Level 9 Eastern National Beam Champion scoring a 9.50. Kelly also placed 3rd on the Floor Exercise and 6th All-Around. Morgan Northrop is currently the Level 9 Eastern National Silver Medalist. Morgan also finished 10th All-Around in her respective age group. Way to go girls!!
